About Enduro3

Adventure racing is considered as being a very niche sport. Adventure racing till a decade back was confined only to certain parts of the world and its popularity in continents like Asia was negligible. One thing that has been observed in Asia in particular is the dearth of adventure races. There are very few adventure races which are held in a continent which is the biggest in the world. India is one of the biggest countries in the continent of Asia and this country as we have already mentioned has a lot to offer in terms of opportunities for adventure sports. However until about a decade ago there was not a single adventure race in India and adventure sports and adventure racing enthusiasts were certainly missing quality racing opportunities.

Adventure racing is something that has a huge amount of popularity all over the world. The term adventure racing can be aptly described as racing with a considerable element of adventure in it. There are a number of adventure races in different parts of the world that have garnered quite a bit of popularity. Some races test the skills of participants in certain adventure sports, other races test the ability of the participants to work in a team and certain races test the ability of participants in coping in an entirely different, inhospitable and primal setting

NEF realized this huge void on the adventure racing front and the concept of Enduro3 was born in order to provide an opportunity for people in India to compete in a well organized and competitive adventure race. NEF first introduced the concept of the Enduro3 adventure race in the February of 2003. The adventure race in its first edition was promoted as a state level adventure race and teams from the state of Maharashtra and particularly from the city of Pune participated. The first edition of Enduro3 was a learning experience for both the participants as well as the organizers as organizing such a big event which took place over hundreds of kilometers and involved many different adventure sport disciplines. The first edition of the race however provided enough excitement, verve and enthusiasm which lead to NEF organizing the second edition the following year. Enduro3 has become so popular that seven editions of the only adventure race in India have already been completed and all of them have been roaring successes.

Enduro3 has been organized by the National Education Foundation over the past seven years and this amply proves the commitment and the passion that every member of NEF shares for the cause of adventure racing and adventure sports. However one thing that should be mentioned is the fact that any event as big and as ambitious as Enduro3 cannot be achieved without considerable preparation and prior knowledge. Keeping this important factor in mind, NEF covered every base in its quest to make Enduro3 a premier adventure race in India. Each and every conceivable angle concerning the race was discussed minutely and suitable rules and regulations were formulated. All the prior preparation certainly has paid rich dividends and the enormous success of Enduro3 stands testament to this fact. Pune district is one of the best places in the whole country for adventure racing as the terrain and the climate in this district in western India is highly conducive for adventure racing. Every edition of Enduro3 till today has been organized in the surroundings of Pune district.

The state of Maharashtra certainly has a lot of history and heritage associated with it. Maharashtra is a state which is home to a number of beautiful and scenic forts. These forts have a lot of history associated with them and visiting these forts is truly a very interesting and an engaging experience. The people who enjoy the outdoors and are passionate about adventure activities regularly undertake treks to these forts. Improvising and adapting to the surroundings is something which has been the forte of the National Education Foundation. NEF while planning the whole profile of Enduro3 has kept the historical and ethnic aspects of the race terrain in mind. As a result the race routes of all the seven editions have been designed through the smallest of hamlets and even through forts in the surrounding region.

Over the years Enduro3 has gone from strength to strength and today the event is recognized as one of the premier happenings on the adventure sports circuit. Why has Enduro3 become so popular? Is it because the event entails participants to test the limit of their physical and mental capacities? Is it because the race is conducted through some of the most rugged and equally beautiful terrain? Or is it just because the race is something totally refreshing and out of the box? It is a mix of everything that is mentioned above and NEF has successfully managed to concoct a heady mixture of adventure coupled with responsibility and the organization has successfully managed to insert the important message of conservation of the environment in the event.

Participating teams come from all over the country to taste raw and unbridled adventure in the form of Enduro3. NEF provides adventure sports enthusiasts as well as people with a keen interest in outdoors to go that extra mile and discover the satisfying feeling of having pushed themselves that extra bit and having successfully mastered the grueling and testing race. One thing that Enduro3 has certainly managed well is the promotion of adventure sports and the development of a unique spirit in the participants. Enduro3 is so successful that people train hard months before the race in order to make a concentrated assault on the various prizes that the event offers. There is wholesome participation from people of all ages and we can safely say that Enduro3 is the only event that has a 60 year old individual pushing as hard as an 18 year old youngster.

Enduro3 is in reality one of the most well organized and highly rated events in terms of organization and response in the country and at NEF it has always been a tradition to make any event and especially Enduro3 bigger and better than the previous edition. One thing NEF and Enduro3 always delivers on is the fact that the race is an interesting and engaging experience with lots of thrills and the challenge to utilize that last iota of strength to successfully complete the challenge.
